Donald Trump Flashback: ‘Dream’ to put UN headquarters at Ground Zero

Here is my issue with Donald Trump and his political ambitions; there’s very little difference between the mannerisms of “actor” Donald Trump and “politician” Donald Trump. As an example here is Donald Trump on the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE):

In comparison, here is Donald Trump the politician:

Where does the actor end and the real Donald Trump begin? Being a good actor is a pretty good school to have as a politician (just look at Ronald Reagan); however it’s the true ethics and understanding of issues that is important. Donald Trump is a big government Republican. He firmly believes in using the power of the federal government to force people to behave the way he wants them to. Here is a video of Donald Trump speaking before the House Task Force on Urgent Fiscal Issues back in 1991. Yes it was a while ago, but its eye opening:

Donald Trump is arguing that the 1986 Tax Cuts were a disaster and that the top rate should be raised “substantially” to force investors to invest in things they otherwise would not consider good investments. Next we go to 2005 when Donald Trump was testifying about the United Nations Headquarters Renovation. While he’s quite correct that the UN can’t complete the project with any sort of fiscal accountability, he goes on to say:

I’ve made a lot of money. I don’t care. I want nothing. There are lots of different…you know, if somebody said, what would be your dream on this site, while my dream is a dream that won’t happen, but it’s a dream that I might tell you. It’s a dream to take the United Nations, and the Senator over here is probably going to go crazy, move it to the World Trade Center as a brand new United Nations. Sell the United Nations site, which is one of the greatest sites in the world, for much more money than the whole thing would cost, and you end up building a free United Nations at the World Trade Center, where I don’t think anybody’s going to want to stay anyway. I think it’s going to be a very, very hard rent up at the World Trade Center.

He also discusses how much he admires the United Nations:

I have to start by saying I’m a big fan, a very big fan of the United Nations, and all it stands for. I can’t speak as to what’s been happening over the last number of years, because it certainly hasn’t been good. But the concept of the United Nations, and the fact that the United Nations is in New York, is very important to me, and very important to the world, as far as I am concerned. So, I am a big fan. Such a fan, in fact, that at great expense, I built a building across the street.

If you want to see the full testimony, you can view it below:

Even though Donald Trump talks a good game, he is in fact a big fan of big government, both national and international. When he is talking as a professional (he is admittedly very good when it comes to real-estate), he talks a very different game than he does on the campaign trail. The politician Donald Trump is no more real than his acting on the WWE. Its effective, its entertaining, but its not the real Donald Trump.

Finally, here’s one last video of Donald Trump that will haunt my nightmares for the rest of my life. Yes it’s a comedy bit, but wow:
