Mainstream media spews lies about Ted Cruz being turned away from Adelsons’ suite at RNC

“I know that the Adelsons did not snub Senator Cruz because I was present in their suite at the Convention sitting nearby for Senator Cruz’s address.” – Rabbi Shmuley Boteach

The mainstream media blindly reported ad nauseum that Senator Ted Cruz was turned away from Sheldon Adelson’s suite after he declined to endorse Donald Trump on Wednesday evening at the Republican National Convention.

But the mainstream media once again was regurgitating reports that they failed to vet.

The truth was reported at the Daily Wire and the Times of Israel, who cited Rabbi Shmuley Boteach:

“The Adelsons are friendly with Senator Cruz, and whatever their feelings about his speech tonight, that friendship remains intact,” said Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, a friend of Sheldon and Miriam Adelson who was in the suite at the time. “They would never have behaved disrespectfully to anyone, much less a friend who is a United States senator and a staunch friend of Israel,” said Boteach, who said he was authorized to make the comments on behalf of the Adelsons.

Additionally, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach posted a lengthy rebuttal on Facebook:

The False Report that the Adelsons Snubbed Senator Ted Cruz

As I was going to sleep tonight, late in Cleveland, I saw that CNN and many other news outlets were prominently reporting that after Senator Cruz’s speech at the RNC and refusal to endorse Donald Trump, Dr. Miriam and Sheldon Adelson disinvited him from their suite and snubbed him.

Anyone with any knowledge of the Adelsons knows this to be so out of character as to be utterly defamatory and false.

The Adelsons are renowned for their hospitality, respect, and compassion. Whatever issues they would have had with Senator Cruz’s speech, they would never have chosen to disrespect a friend who is a United States Senator, a patriot, and a staunch friend of Israel. Rather, they would have chosen to do what they plan to do tomorrow, to meet privately and confidentially with their friend the Senator and continue an ongoing and productive dialogue about the American future and the political process.

Beyond the Adelsons’ sterling reputation for respect for others, a quality they have instilled, amid a privileged background, in all their children, I know that the Adelsons did not snub Senator Cruz because I was present in their suite at the Convention sitting nearby for Senator Cruz’s address.

After the speech, given its newsworthy content, it appears that a large contingent of reporters followed the Senator as he made his rounds, including to the Adelson’s suite. The decision was taken by advisers to the Adelsons not to make a spectacle in the small private suite given the intense media scrutiny engulfing the Senator at that moment and to instead meet him in private the following day.

To describe this as a snub is to utterly misrepresent what occurred.

I have no idea what the opinion of the Adelsons was on Senator Cruz’s speech. But I do know that whatever their feelings they would have shown him the respect and courtesy they accord all whom they meet, and I am a personal witness to the respect and patience Miri and Sheldon have always shown me, regardless of the ever-present pressures of their lives.

In short, Dr. Miriam and Sheldon Adelson are living examples of the celebrated Rabbinic teaching in Ethics of our Fathers: “Receive every human being with gladness” (3:16 – Teaching of Rabbi Yishmael).

The charges appear to stem from a CNN article, who cites Andy Abboud, “a senior aide to the Las Vegas casino magnate,” who “said Cruz was initially invited to come up to visit the Adelsons, but when he failed to endorse Trump the invitation was rescinded.”

A request to Andy Abboud has gone unanswered at the time of this writing.

Then the story grew to include former Senators referring to Ted Cruz as “a piece of sh**”….

From the Independent Journal:

A former U.S. Senator inside the Adelson’s luxury box at the Quicken Loans arena told Independent Journal Review that Cruz approached the suite after he finished his speech that fell short of endorsing Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

Cruz was not welcome in the suite “because he’s a piece of sh*t,” the Senator said.

It is astonishing that the quality of journalism has become so poor that what passes as news in America today is really just an endless regurgitation of narrative pushing.

  1. Thank you for setting the record straight. It did seem a bit “off”, and for good reason. This needs to be repeated/posted often! Thank you for fighting for the right!
