“Fears of heightened bigotry and hate crimes have turned into reality for some Americans after Donald Trump’s presidential win. And the list of incidents keeps growing.” – A big whopper by Holly Yan, Kristina Sgueglia and Kylie Walker of CNN, who tie Donald Trump to unsourced “hate crimes,” Nov. 21 2016
The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) promises “deeper analysis and more documentation” to prove their obviously false assertion that there have been 701 “hateful incidents of harassment around the country” since Donald Trump has been elected. The insinuation is that evil Trump supporters have been emboldened upon Trump’s election to attack basically anyone who is not a white, straight male.
There are no suspects, no police reports, no due process, and no convictions in any of the SPLC’s thread-bare report. In fact, they even admit that their “hateful incidents of harassment around the country” are largely “anecdotal.”
Allegations are not facts.
George Soros has jumped on the bandwagon, pledging to “commit $10 million from his personal foundation to combat a rise in hate crimes that he linked to the ‘incendiary rhetoric’ of President-elect Donald J. Trump’s campaign,” as reported at the New York Times:
“His nonprofit group, the Open Society Foundations, plans to spend at least $5 million in coming weeks to fund grants of as much as $150,000 to community groups and civil rights organizations to develop plans for combating the recent spate of hate crimes and to work with victims.”
There is NO “spate of hate crimes.” But there IS an uptick in fake hate crimes.
The fake SPLC “report” has been breathlessly cited by:
- New York Times
- CNN
- Fox News Latino
- The New York Daily News
- CBS News
- NBC News
- USA Today
- Time Magazine
- BBC News
- NPR
The above is not an exhaustive list.
The SPLC, who has literally hundreds of millions of dollars in their endowment fund and employs hundreds of people, uses a basic Excel spreadsheet with various categories, with one notable exception:

But the SPLC was kind enough to provide a short audio clip to give the reader a “get a better understanding of the nature of these incidents.”
They dramatically warn:
“We were forwarded this voicemail left on the emergency line at a Denver-based immigration law firm. Warning, it includes racial slurs and adult language: “
Listen:
So a message perhaps left by an SPLC administrative assistant is all they have as evidence?
Illustrating a painful lack of journalistic integrity, CNN lamented:
“Fears of heightened bigotry and hate crimes have turned into reality for some Americans after Donald Trump’s presidential win. And the list of incidents keeps growing.”
There is absolutely no evidence of this claim.
CNN continued to cite the additionally thinly-sourced FBI Hate Crimes report, which has also captured attention from the mainstream media. The main point the media highlights is that there was “a 67% increase in hate crimes against Muslim Americans.” This unsourced point is hammered home at the New York Times, aljazeera, ABC News, CNN, and RT, for example.
The number of alleged hate crimes against Muslims for the entire year of 2015 is 257. These “hate crimes” are not listed, and could potentially include things like anonymous graffiti or even a post-it with mean things written on it.
To put this in perspective, the FBI also claims that there were 1,197,704 “violent crimes” throughout the United States in 2015.
Like the SPLC “report,”
There are no suspects, no police reports, no due process, and no convictions in the FBI “report.”
There is absolutely no way to vet the FBI Hate Crimes report. We just have to take US Attorney General Loretta Lynch at her word.
Referencing both reports, Loretta Lynch laments about the “recent spate of alleged hate crimes and harassment.” She also repeats the lie about Matthew Shepard’s brutal murder being a “hate crime.” It wasn’t.
Let’s talk about hate
If the Southern Poverty Law Center is looking for “hate,” they need look no further than groups such as the Maoist-leaning Freedom Road Socialist Organization, the Maoist/Stalinist Party of Socialism and Liberation and the Trotskyist Socialist Alternative – to name just a few communist groups relentlessly organizing anti-Trump rallies.
Would bloody Trump heads in the street qualify as “hate?”

Would Donald Trump’s head burning in effigy qualify as “hate?”

Would a St. Louis neighborhood beating a Donald Trump piñata qualify as “hate?”

This author remembers when a rodeo clown received national attention and was banned from the Missouri State Fair for life for wearing an Obama mask. But a bloody Trump head receives no media scrutiny.
While the SPLC produces no evidence, no suspects, no police reports, no due process, and no convictions in their “report,” there have been numerous, documented incidents of anti-Trump violence.
