“He @RickSantorum lost his 06 Senate race by 18 points. He is also disqualified for 18 Ohio delegates. Coincidence? And these lost delegates show that he is badly organized and not a good manager.” Donald Trump, March 2012

Kyle Cheney of Politico found some tweets from Donald Trump from 2012, where he slammed then-presidential candidate Rick Santorum for not understanding delegate rules.

Here is the list:

  1. Wait, so Cruzbots claim Trump became a Republican 6mo before his campaign and voted for Obama, yet they’re too shallow to see that their own material against Trump completely proves their original argument wrong? Interesting.

    1. Actually, he changed parties 5 times. But I don’t think we are claiming he is not “Republican.” Us Cruzbots “claim” that he is a big government establishment guy, cause he is. He bragged about it and his intricate knowledge of the delegate system shows that he is well aware of the system, but either chose not to participate because he is arrogant and thought he could bypass it or he does not care to win.

  2. Trump can easily explain this away to the full satisfaction of his average supporter: “What was said yesterday was yesterday. Today is today. Yesterday was different from today. That was all then, and this is now. Only listen to what is said now.”

  3. So what is the deal with Trump this go-round? It is obvious he knows the process. He’s basically lying to low-information voters about the process he is totally throwing. His campaign is literally not engaged in some of these states he is lying about.

    1. Imagine that Trump’s real aims were to to crush the Conservative movement, rip apart the Republican party, and help Hillary win. Now everything he does makes sense, doesn’t it?

    2. I have thought about this. I kind of figured he was so cocky that he just assumed all the delegates would flock to him, but you are right – now that it is clear that he deeply understood this whole process, I have to rethink it. As far as a theory, CavalierX makes sense. As a thought experiment, we know that the left hates the delegate process, they WANT a direct democracy which would be very bad as the founding fathers knew it would be (see Federalist 51) so now we are turning public opinion against the process. If his friends Soros and Haass told him to destroy the GOP, what would he be doing differently?

    3. What Trump has realized since then is that the system us rigged! Why go there and spend time and money where the deck is stacked! Cruz has become exactly what he has campaigned against, an INSIDER CORRUPT POLITICIAN that will USE THE SYSTEM to get what he wants! If he truly was fir the AMERICAN SMALL GUYS he would play it straight up and listen to the voters! The majority of Cruz’s victories were NOT ELECTIONS! If he goes to Cleveland millions of voters behind Trump, he should throw his support behind Trump against the WASHINGTON MACHINE AND MONEY and be what he claims to be! Because TRUTH BE TOLD he wil NOT BE THE GOP CANDIDATE !! They are using him to get a contested convention! After the second vote Marco Rubio will reinstate bus campaign and delegates and will get the nomination with Kasich as VP for doing their dirty work!

      1. If the system was “rigged,” we would have Marco Rubio or Jeb Bush right now. In fact, what you are seeing is the result of years of vigilance from limited government advocates known as the Tea Party. If you actually care about the process, read Federalist 51. The founding fathers were actually quite brilliant. The system now protects the little guy. If we had a pure democracy like Trumpies are now inexplicably calling for, we throw away our rights. The left has been calling for us to scrap this system for decades because they understand that they can bribe the majority. The tyranny of the majority. The system is correct, the problem is that so few people pay attention to it. Do you want to make change, do it at the local level. Get involved. Karl Rove does not want you to know that you, too, can be a precinct committee officer. It just takes effort and so few, like Donald Trump evidently, are willing to fight for it. They just want it handed to them without doing anything other than ranting about a wall.
