China continues its unrelenting drive for influence in the South Pacific.

Papua New Guinea’s military says it’s looking to strengthen its ties with China following a 10 day visit by the country’s top officer.
Commodore Peter Ilau toured China meeting government ministers and also examined the possibility of an aircraft purchase to replace some of PNG’s ageing fleet.
He says it is also a chance to develop the skills of his soldiers in handling a variety of problems at home.
“Because of the disaster prone area that Papua New Guinea is, we are looking in the modern PNG efforts to repond to natural disaster,” he said.
“That’s one of our core businesses as well, so China is also a country also that we can share ideas with and work on in improving the capabilities of our engineers.”

When I say "brazenly" you can take it as meaning the NZ intelligentsia, NZ govt,MFAT,NZTE the whole damned lot of them.
I am sure many by now must have reached the conclusion NZ is effetively a one party state, the citizenry just go throughh the farce of having an election every three years.If a country does not have the foundations or pillars necessary to democracy you do not have democracy no matter how much wishful thinking we might do.
It seems to me that very little has changed politically or culturally in NZ since the days of the first Labour govt.Any objective look back at the independent foreign policies we like to boast so much about, would show everyone just what a sterling bunch of arse kissing appeasers we have had running our lovely little country for far too long.The NZ Labour party managed to make Neville Chamberlain look like a warmonger with their efforts to justify and excuse Hitler and Stalins atrocities against civillian populations, even the NZ govt inaction towards the Japanese is enough to make one feel sick with shame .
The NZ govt have long had a sneaking admiration for totalitarian regimes and have actively supported and subordinated themselves to their international agendas, as we saw with the pro-Soviet Lange govt rupturing the ANZUS Alliance, as well as doing this we planted the seeds of radical native socialism all over the Pacific, we can see the affects from this today, Fiji under Bainamarama has managed to thwart the ambitions of this effort so far, however it will be difficult to continue to contain this menace forever.Having NZ hostage to the demands of radical Maori seperatists is a contagious regional matter that will eventually need to be confronted.Some have called what is happening under the radar of MSM and most of society is fourth generation warfare, it is very easy to disrupt a system, as the radical well knows.It is better for NZ govts and officials to prretend it is not happening and just keep handing over larger and larger sums of money, problem is we will run out of money faster than they will run out of demands.Then couple all this with the fact Maori run prisons are just really a way to raise an army hostile to decent civilization and we all have real problems.
My apologies for rambling on, I will try to explain a little more when time is more plentiful, thankyou to Trevor Loudon for so much valuable and well researched information all at one site, much appreciated.
Tribalism is really primitive communism, there is nothing noble about any of it.Terrorism is a symptom of tribalism and socialism,the Soviets were experts in the ideological indoctrination of todays terrorists.Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow was built for the sole purpose of creating third world terrorists.NZs Maori leaders have the same adhere to the same ideology as those that Patrice Lumumba university churned out.The west is not in the state it is in by accident or because of some natural evolution we have been too apathetic and lazy and scared to talk honestly and openly about those that threaten our continued prosperity and way of life.

Out of curiosity Anon @ 3.45pm, when you say "NZ has brazenly …", are you specifically referring to the last NZ Govt, or Govt's in general including the present one also, or particular people or groups with influence eg MFAT or perhaps an activist type group etc?

Never mind worrying too much about PNG helping China wield more influence in the Pacific.NZ is doing its share all on its own with 13 Pacific Islands being bullied into a so-called free trade agreement with NZ and Australia, PACER.This will evolve into a Pacific Union and can be served up on a plate whole and intact to China.NZ is the country hosting Chinese warships and officials in larger numbers than anywhere else in the region.
NZ has brazenly tried to make out that Fiji and others like PNG are the weak links and will allow the Chinese more influence in the region, when in reality it is NZ doing all the hand holding and sneaky manouvering in secret.
But then I suppose this is the price we must pay for all this independent foreign policy we are so fond of.
NZ has done more than anyone else to remove the US military presence from the western Pacific, of this we should be proud comrades.
