Muesli Munching Marxists, Molest Meat Mogul’s Meeting

From Indymedia

Between March 29 and 31, 2007, animal rights activists will converge on Poneke/Wellington, to disrupt and protest the annual meat industry conference.

The Wellington Animal Rights Network is inviting activists from around the country to come to Wellington for three days of protests and other events during the meat conference.

Thursday 29th March: Vegan dinner
Friday March 30th: Protest at the opening of the conference
Saturday 31st March: 11am main protest against the Meat Industry Conference
6:30pm Protest outside parliament as the Meat Industry Gala Dinner

On March 30th and 31st, New Zealand meat industry leaders are meeting in Wellington to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the first frozen meat exports. We don’t think the meat industries contribution to animal cruelty, global warming and environmental destruction is anything to celebrate, so we plan to oppose the conference and the meat industry.

  1. well what did you expect? You weren’t reasoning. So far you have said that vegans are thin, and eating meat is immoral. On both grounds reasonable people may disagree.

Your supporting argument that you havent met a fat vegan is simply facile. I have, does this prove you wrong?

So you aren’t in the arguing business, nor in the reasoning business, so why should anyone else bother with your.

I’ll leave you with a conundrum – If God didn’t want us to eat animals why did he make them out of meat (substitute s/he and Giaia if you prefer)

  2. for goodness sake anon. Humans evolved over hundreds of thousands of years to eat any old crap.

We thrive on meat, fats, oils and the odd vegetable.

Yes you have to KILL animals to eat meat. Big deal, live with it. If I don’t eat it it might die of old age, and that would be a dreadful waste, particularly as the older animals are chewy.

My advice to the MIA is to bring a couple of busloads of Freezing Workers down to the piss-up, make lots of them Maori and PI. Then lets see how they get on with the scrawny little hippies who want to destroy their jobs.

Should be good for a giggle on the TV news.

  3. “I personally believe that a diet which includes meat and animal is both beneficial and desirable.”

What scientific research/studies/data do you base that on?

“I’m morally fine with meat eating.”

Do you think that a) animals raised for slaughter do not suffer during any stage of the process, or that b) it is morally justified to make animals suffer during the slaugher process or in the way that they are raised/housed while alive?

“I think it is beneficial health wise.”

Again, what do you base that on?

  4. Fair enough anon.

I am a convinced omnivore. I also help out from time to time on an organic farm. It keeps me in touch with nature and the quality of the food, particularly the meat is great.

I personally believe that a diet which includes meat and animal is both beneficial and desirable. I eat butter like some people eat ice cream and my chloresterol is fine.

Different people have different metabolisms and different tastes.

I’m morally fine with meat eating. Aesthetically it rocks and I think it is beneficial health wise.

Even if it wasn’t desirable from a health point of view, I’d still do it, because the pleasure involved is so great.

Love my veges anon, but I simply adore my meat.

  5. Anon,you said that:

‘Every fat or unhealthy person I have ever met has been an omnivore, while I have never met a fat or unhealthly vegetarian or vegan (and I have known a lot of them)’.

Would you consider that those people that are vegan or vegetarian are also people who think about their health and get the right amount of exersise?

Many native peoples such as the Inuit and the Masai live on a diet high in Animal proteins with no ill-effect.

I would also direct your attention to this webpage:

You will probably not agree with the comclusions the author has come up with (In my experience vegans especially cannot be shaken from the chosen dietry beliefs – it’s like a religion for them) but it may be of interest to you.

  6. Anon-I respect your choice. All I ask is that the animal rights movement, respects the rights and property of those who don’t follow their philosophy.

  7. I have been an ACT supporter for some time and also support animal rights/welfare. I have been a vegetarian for around seven years now. Every fat or unhealthy person I have ever met has been an omnivore, while I have never met a fat or unhealthly vegetarian or vegan (and I have known a lot of them).

There is a multitude of information on the internet about the benefits of a vegetarian or vegan diet, but I will leave just one:

“Dr. T. Colin Campbell is one of the world’s foremost epidemiological scientists and director of what The New York Times called “the most comprehensive large study ever undertaken of the relationship between diet and the risk of developing disease.” Dr. Campbell’s studies have shown that, as he puts it, “the vast majority of all cancers, cardiovascular diseases, and other forms of degenerative illness can be prevented simply by adopting a plant-based diet.”

Aside from the health benefits, I am not able to eat something that I would not be able to kill myself. There is no way I could slaughter a cow or sheep, so I don’t want anyone to do it for me.

  8. Thanks Clint, I’ve heard heaps about it. I’ll probably arrange a showing for the local ACT crew.

  9. Trev, make sure you can get a copy of the Great Global Warming Swindle. G-man as linked to a video on his blog. It is brilliant stuff and should be compulsory viewing if Govts want to make everybody watch Al Gores fictional film

  10. a little bird told me that Climaction are going down to Wellington to support these protests. The science says that methane is New Zealands biggest greenhouse gas, and that the meat and dairy industry are major contributors. Climaction has a lot of lefties in it, including the Socialist Worker crew, who have recruited a new bunch of young people sympathetic to animal rights.

  11. It’s really not suprising that vegans are screwy.

Most lack vitiman B12 which is vital for higher brain functions.

  12. Not at all. Most lefties I know also get onto the trendy veggie bandwagon but most don’t last.

But it is a fair point to lump them in with the veggie bunch. They are all pretty weird people any way you look at them. Most need a good steak (stake) in them too 🙂

  13. Yes I have to admit there was a little poetic licence there.

Most animal rights activists, if political are anarchists.

I will say though, they tend to be left anarchists who tend to hold some Marxist views and often cooperate with Marxists in various organisations and campaigns ie Peace Action Wellington.

  14. Violent Vegan Vigilante is right. I don’t think I’ve ever met any Marxist aninmal rights activists. I know some Marxists who are extremely supportive of animal rights but few seem to be the fur shop picketing type, battery hen busting out of cage type.

Maybe this might change since Trev has endorsed the demo.

  15. Oh trevor such a witty title
But I dont munch muesli (I m a weetbix kid) and as far as I know, there arent any marxists coming to the protests. Hopefully that will change as you continue to promote our events on every marxists favourite website!

  16. Reminds me of the tshirt of Maddox.

“For every endangered species you don’t eat, I’m gonna have three”

    🙂

    mmm bacon.
