In my recent post on the leftist lean of the latest Fijian coup, I predicted that the “crypto-communist, pro-Chinese, Fiji Labour Party is likely to benefit under the new government“.
I also hinted at former PM Mahendra Chaudry’s likely influence.
The leader of the Fiji Labor Party, Mahendra Chaudhry,…stressed that he was not ready to be part of an interim government to be formed by the military but was “ready to extend any help that we can in order to bring about the restoration of democratic rule“.
It now looks that Mahendra Chaudry and his comrades may indeed do very well out of the new regime.

Chaudhry tipped as Fiji finance minister
Seven more interim ministers will be sworn in by Fiji President Ratu Josefa Iloilo in Suva this morning.
Eight ministers were sworn in on Monday.
Fiji Labor Party Leader Mahendra Chaudhry – a former prime minister – is strongly tipped to be the Minister for Finance in the military-appointed interim government.
Chaudhry is one of several Labor members expected to take up ministries in the government headed by Commodore Frank Bainimarama.
The Qarase coalition government had nine Fiji labor Party cabinet ministers out of a total of 24. Look to see an increase in both the number and influence of FLP ministers in the Bainimarama government.
I think with situations like Fiji, it seems like it’s more of a “Grenada” than a “North Korea”.

I’m no expert on Fiji, but one thing for sure this event tells is that the far left love to portray themselves as “promoters of the democratic process” whenever they endorse ilk like Hugo Chavez.
Never mind the pro-Communist forces in Fiji taking power.
