Will Graham brought his Declaration of Dependence Tour to Frederick, Maryland, citing America’s Christian heritage and urging a spiritual revival. The Maryland stop was included in a 13-city outreach and prayer gathering in each of the original U.S. colonies. I covered this event and published a report with photos about it.
In the United States, there are approximately 165 million to 175 million Christians of voting age (adults aged 18 and older). But whether these voters remain true to Christian values by voting in the midterms depends on the information provided to them, and it appears that many are being led astray from the pulpit.
Indeed, are Christians being led to the slaughter by such “Christian” figures as the Rev. Adam Hamilton, a well-known United Methodist pastor running for the Senate in Kansas? And James Talarico in Texas?
Vice President Vance noted that Hamilton and his church “proudly supported a drag group called Our Ladies of Perpetual Indulgence, which you may remember was the devil-worshipping group that was saying special blessings before L.A. Dodgers games and insulting … every Christian in this room in the process.”
He added, “We’re going to be clear about what this group is. This is an anti-Christian hate group. Its whole purpose is to mock the Christian religion.”
The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence is a group of blasphemous “nuns” known for denigrating the Catholic faith by dressing in drag resembling the black-and-white habits of Catholic sisters.
Hamilton has been accused by his opponent, Senator Roger Marshall, of having “covered up child sex abuse at his megachurch,” while ignoring parents and never calling the police. “He is unfit to hold office.”
In Texas, Democrat Senate candidate James Talarico, a self-proclaimed Christian, claims that there are six biological sexes, God is non-binary, and the Bible says nothing about abortion, the murder of innocent human life. Talarico uses the language of transgenderism and favors the practice, even on kids. Indeed, he says, “trans children are God’s children, made in God’s own image. There’s nothing wrong with them. Nothing at all. They are perfect. They are beautiful, and they are sacred.”
The Will Graham event in Maryland was not political, although Will Graham mentioned Maryland’s Christian heritage and the role of Marylanders in the Revolutionary War. He noted George Washington’s praise of the state’s elite Revolutionary War troops, known as the Maryland Line, against the stronger British Army.
Hundreds attended the event in Baker Park in Frederick.
Will Graham, the grandson of Billy Graham, is the third generation of Grahams to proclaim the Gospel under the banner of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA). He said “Jesus changed my life” and urged prayers and the need for a “revival.”
“There is sin in the church,” he said. “There is sin in the pews.”
“Unless repentance takes place, the result will be death and hell,” he said.
“The church did not die for your sins,” he emphasized. Jesus Christ did so.
An associate of his ministry, who welcomed members of the audience to Christ and provided them Bibles, acknowledged that Maryland has now become a very “dark place” in need of redemption and revival.
Ironically, Maryland was founded in 1634 by Cecil Calvert (Lord Baltimore) as a refuge for English Catholics fleeing religious persecution in Great Britain. The Archdiocese of Baltimore was the first Roman Catholic diocese established in the United States (1789) but has gone bankrupt because of child sex abuse scandals and cover-ups and the need to pay victims under Maryland’s Child Victims Act of 2023.
Locally, in Frederick, Maryland, the city government and newspaper, the Frederick News-Post, sponsor “gay pride” events featuring drag queens and exhibits from the Democratic Socialists of America and several local “Christian churches.” At another such event, Democrat Governor Wes Moore wore a “TRANS Maryland” sticker and highlighted “queer youth.”
Local Catholic churches promote open borders and LGBTQ ideology.
However, recognizing the damage done to the next generation, there is a “Fight for Common Sense Conservative Values” being waged by the slate of Heather Fletcher, Shelley Potter, Geoff Seidel, and Tyler Walker for election to the Frederick County School Board. These conservatives want to:
- Reject failed social ideologies and restore classroom discipline.
- Focus resources in the classroom and care for students with special disabilities.
- Immediately eliminate Policy 443 to keep girls safe in sports and private spaces.
- Respect parents, empower educators, and restore fiscal accountability.
They cite local educational performance statistics as reasons for change:
- 6 out of 10 students fail to meet math standards.
- 4 in 10 cannot read at grade level.
- One-third of 10th graders are not college- and career-ready.
While the United States continues to have the largest Christian population of any single country in the world, the influence of evil, even Satanic, forces is on the rise, as Vice President Vance noted in his remarks on the drag queens.
In that case, Adam Hamilton’s church, Resurrection UMC, had served as a community sponsor for a local Kansas City “Pride” featuring the participation of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.
In my area, a nearby “Pride” march featuring drag queens and witches, including the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, was held in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, site of the major battle of the Civil War.
The problem is worldwide, as my family discovered while visiting Rome in February, 2020, and we took a tour of the Colosseum only to discover a statue of Moloch, the pagan deity of child sacrifice, being displayed. The Colosseum is viewed by many Christians as a sacred site because early Christians were martyred there.
In my discussion with one of Will Graham’s associates, he noted the need to seek out Bible-believing churches.
In my own list of more than 50 action items for conservatives, I emphasized the need for churches to return to preaching about the 10 commandments and the need for exorcisms in the face of mounting cases of demonic possession.
Among other things, they should denounce socialism as theft (“You shall not covet your neighbor’s goods”) and abortion (“Thou shalt not kill”) and euthanasia.
If churches don’t remind you of these commandments on a regular basis, they are “Christian” in name only.
