Rep. King does have a problem, with his past support for the Irish Republican Army, a position common to many Irish Americans, particularly in Massachusetts and New York.
While originally patriotic and Catholic, by the 1970s, the I.R.A. was largely internationalist and Marxist.
What many American supporters like King failed to realize, was that the I.R.A. was fighting, not just for a “United Ireland”, but for a “United SOCIALIST Ireland”.
The I.R.A. was part of the Soviet sponsored international terror network that included the Palestinian Liberation Organization, Japanese Red Army, Latin American narco terrorists etc.
Modern Islamic terrorism serves the the same Russian masters that the I.R.A. did in the 1970s and 80s.
I wish Rep. King well in his hearings, but if he follows this line as far as he should, he is going to have to confront some very uncomfortable truths.
King is my Rep, and I know well his sympathies for the IRA and their American allies in the Irish-American Society. It was a great pleasure for those of us of Brit heritage (Scottish especially) to every other year witness visits from British military bands at our local venues for a magnificent display of musicianship and pomp. That is until King and his IRA buddies started picketing the venues and eventually managed to bring all the visits to a stop – citing the use of public financed building (are we or proud Scot blood not public too, King?) should not play host to "soldiers with Irish blood on their hands." Funny – I distinctly recall the IRA blowing up, raiding homes and killing the innocent families of soldiers and Northern Irish citizens. But that doesn't matter much, does it, Mr. King? And by the way – he has outright lied to me in every mail I sent to his office that was responded to.
