I had just been in Washington, D.C., a few years ago when I went to a news conference featuring Gloria Steinem endorsing Ted Kennedy for president. Remember that Teddy had left a young woman to die in the bottom of his submerged car at Chappaquiddick after a party. I asked Steinem, a women’s libber, why she supported such a notorious womanizer. I’ll never forget her reply: “At least he needs women for something.”
This is the “legendary” champion of women’s liberation, says the “conservative” New York Post. Steinem, whose death at the age of 94 is a global story, did not have any biological children, a deliberate choice.
Women’s lib has meant 60 million abortions, lesbian rights, more cancer in women, and now men in women’s sports. It is a con job by the Marxists to fool women into betraying their own needs and giving control of their children to the state.
Another possibly related matter: an increase in reported cases and convictions of female-perpetrated child sexual abuse over the past decade.
Steinem, who in 2013 was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama, was an advocate for “equality for women,” according to a Fox News story written by a man.
The truth is something else. According to one bio, “Her involvement in feminism intensified in 1968 when she attended a meeting of a radical feminist group, the Redstockings.” The “Redstockings Manifesto” stated that women are an oppressed class and that male supremacy is the most basic form of domination. “We identify the agents of our oppression as men,” it said, “Male supremacy is the oldest, most basic form of domination. All other forms of exploitation and oppression (racism, capitalism, imperialism, etc.) are extensions of male supremacy…”
Steinem was “legendary,” to quote Fox, in the sense that she always put “progressive” politics above the real needs of women – in the case of Mary Ko Kopechne, to stay alive and out of the clutches of a deranged womanizer specializing in debauchery.
At the time, Kennedy had challenged incumbent President Jimmy Carter during the 1980 Democratic presidential primaries. He had left Mary Jo to die in 1969, as he escaped drowning and contemplated his future on the bank. It was a scandal the media tried to forget.
Vladimir Lenin “viewed the emancipation of women as an essential and inseparable part of the broader socialist revolution and the elimination of capitalist exploitation,” says Red Star Publishing. That is, when they stay alive, but in Mary Jo Kopechne’s case, she was sacrificed to promote Teddy Kennedy’s career. That didn’t bother Gloria Steinem.
With Reed Irvine, one of my mentors, I worked on behalf of the “Mary Jo Kopechne Memorial Society,” which held services at the Dike Bridge on Chappaquiddick Island, where Teddy’s car went into the water. She survived in the car for a while, breathing the oxygen that remained as it sank, but Teddy swam to shore and wondered about his political future. He failed to call for help to save her.
Steinem apparently forgot about Mary Jo’s right to life.
Ignoring her fate as well, look for more media accolades to Steinem and company, advertising federalized child care as a fitting tribute. After all, the Marxist aim of abolishing the family is still a project in motion.
By the way, in order to understand communist success with young people, I suggest Lenin’s pamphlet to the “Younger Generation,” in which he says, “Intensify your work in this field, my young comrades, so that you can apply your fresh, young forces to the building of a new and brighter life.”
Look at the “brighter life” he brought to women.
Since Marxism had two objectives — the abolition of private property and the abolition of the traditional family – the woman, or mother, had to be pushed out of the home. The state had to take over the child’s upbringing.
Even more significant, the movement spawned abortion on demand, even to the point where, today, feminists are defending a woman in the news who murdered her children.
Until now, that “upbringing” has largely been in academia, but the push continues, especially by Zohran Mamdani in New York City, for “universal child care,” to get to the kids when they are younger and have the state control them.
Mao Zedong called it “Women Hold Up Half the Sky,” a phrase designed to get women out of the home and women into the labor force. So-called “child care centers” will take over the raising of children.
By contrast, conservative Phyllis Schlafly, a lawyer, favored true choice for women, including the choice of a woman to be a full-time homemaker without facing systemic economic disadvantages or cultural stigma.
The great “success” of the women’s lib movement was not only abortion but smoking, even getting their own cigarette, baby. Philip Morris introduced Virginia Slims in 1968 and tied the product to the women’s liberation movement. The ads proclaimed, “You’ve come a long way, baby, to get where you got to today; you’ve got your own cigarette now, baby.”
The result: Once considered a rare disease in females, lung cancer transformed into a major public health crisis for females. My mother died from lung cancer caused by smoking. In 1987, according to a study, lung cancer officially surpassed breast cancer to become the leading cause of cancer-related death among U.S. women.
You’ve come “a long way” into an early death, baby, killing babies along the way and getting yourself killed through lung cancer.
I don’t know what Steinem’s FBI file will show, but I got the FBI file on Bella Abzug, another women’s libber, and it demonstrated alignment with communist objectives, including regular visits to the Soviet embassy. She was on the FBI security index for individuals with communist connections and was described as “Either a communist or one who follows the line of the Communist Party very closely.”
I remember covering her attendance at an anti-nuclear rally in D.C. on May 6, 1979, where she appeared with “Hanoi” Jane Fonda, another women’s libber still very much alive and hating Trump.
Today, the spawn of Gloria Steinem can be found in such groups as www.StopPatriarchy.org, which seems to be a front of the Revolutionary Communist Party, USA (RCP), a Maoist organization, because it features Sunsara Taylor as a spokesperson. Taylor, described as the “initiator” of Stop Patriarchy, is a prominent member of the RCP and an advocate of “the new communism” of Bob Avakian. A former comrade of Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn.
One of their “educational pamphlets” proclaims, “A fetus is NOT a baby. Abortion is NOT murder. Women are NOT incubators.”
Lenin and Mao would be proud. America should be sick. Let’s remember Mary Jo Kopechne, not honor Gloria Steinem.
