“Gong Show” Journalism Makes You Dumb

By: Cliff Kincaid

My friend and associate, TV producer Jerry Kenney, came up with the idea that Fox News had been transformed into the “Gong Show” with its constant “Fox News Alerts” coming on the screen with loud noises and fancy graphics. You can’t miss these alerts on display during the updates about the search for Nancy Guthrie. This is how the media try to browbeat you into following a particular story and getting addicted to the coverage.

To quote Jerry, “the Fox Gong is very Pavlovian by design. It conditions viewers to expect important news.”

Fox is not alone, of course, in doing this kind of “journalism.” So-called “breaking news” alerts are used by many “news” outlets to generate eyeballs and clicks. But the Gong sound on Fox is unique.

But why is this story suddenly achieving prominence over revelations about high-level Americans being implicated in Jeffrey Epstein’s global sex trafficking network? Why have “conservative” outlets ignored the evidence about the campaign by MAGA superstar Stephen K. Bannon to rehabilitate Epstein from sex pervert to statesman?

Jerry Kenney has the explanation for the focus on the Guthrie missing person case:

“News channels have run with this [Guthrie] story because it delivers huge ratings. It is a cross between a TV soap opera and a Super Bowl, but with terrible real -world consequences.  The “story” has all the right elements ….

1. Celebrity

2. A vulnerable, sympathetic female victim

3. Cutting-edge tech issues

4. Family and career dynamics

5. Very low production costs

6. It’s easy to understand.

7. And most importantly, it is live and unfolding with a race against the clock.

TV always takes the path of least resistance, and TV news is no exception.”

On the other hand, Kenney points out, “the Epstein story is too old, too complicated, and too unsettling if true. If the Epstein story received 2% of the coverage that Guthrie has, the public might care. But then that would require reporters to do more than cover press conferences. They might have to ‘investigate’ and take the time to actually understand what they are reporting on.”

He adds, “The Epstein story is about more than a wealthy pervert-predator who simply wanted others to join him. At its core, it has all the earmarks of classic international active measures involving blackmail and manipulation for political and economic gain.”

The term “active measures” is associated with Russian operations designed to confuse Western audiences and also compromise Western politicians, business people, and even media figures.

Jerry explains, “It is my hope and prayers that Nancy Guthrie is returned home alive and as well as can be expected and that we find out who the monsters are that did this to her and her family. I also wish that we could find out who the other monsters are (other than Epstein) who arranged and who benefited from Epstein’s free airplane rides and island ‘hospitality.’ It seems to me that the last thing that billionaires and politicians would desire is another ride on a private jet or a luxury vacation.”

Referring to the “dog that didn’t bark” which led Sherlock Holmes to the perpetrator, Jerry asks, “Why aren’t our news outlets barking about an EpsteinGate? Who do the media know that compels them not to bark?”

As Jerry suggests, there is more to the Epstein story than perverts abusing young women. The Russian connection was covered in some detail by the New York Times on February 10, noting that the files detail Epstein’s contacts inside high-level circles in Russia, “where he cultivated officials and traded favors, including with those he hoped might facilitate a meeting with President Vladimir V. Putin.” The paper raised “new questions among Russia’s critics about whether the relationships opened the door to Russian intelligence activity.”

Wow. Do you think so?

The paper said “the files offer new details about the breadth of his contacts related to Russia, which he saw as an opening for political and business interests, as well as a source of the young women he lured into his network. It also shows how Russian officials sought out Mr. Epstein for advice, insights, and possibly investments.”

We hope this finally lays to rest the notion that Russian President Vladimir Putin is a Christian moralist putting the country on the road to salvation. It is impossible to believe that Putin, an iron-fisted dictator, was unaware of Epstein’s contacts with Russian officials. As a former KGB officer, he had to know of the value that Epstein’s global trafficking network brought to the Russians in their campaign to compromise Western officials and promote Russian interests.

My recent YouTube program looked at how Obama and Biden CIA officials were linked to Epstein or his high-level associates. One has just resigned from Goldman Sachs.

The EpsteinGate scandal also implicates those in the West, such as Stephen K. Bannon, who worked to make Epstein into a respectable figure. Bannon has always been critical of Ukraine’s war of self-defense against Russian aggression, a strange position for a so-called defender of the West to take, but despite his relationship with Epstein, he is still on the air on his “Real America’s Voice” channel, blathering on about AI and illegal aliens.

The revelations about being a member of Epstein’s inner circle of powerful friends have not damaged his reputation, such as it was. He is still considered a voice of MAGA, and many “conservatives” still associate with him and appear on his show.  It is mind-boggling.

Trump supporter Laura Loomer says, “Steve Bannon should dedicate an entire week of episodes to explaining his communications with Jeffrey Epstein and address what is in these messages in the time leading up to Epstein’s ‘suicide.’”

On the other side of the political spectrum, it turns out that Epstein was also close to Marxist academic Noam Chomsky. So both ends of the political spectrum find themselves in the muck and mire. Perhaps they have agreed not to bring the subject up anymore. Hence, no coverage.

An NBC News report on Bannon’s communications with Epstein noted that he “has not been accused of any wrongdoing in connection with Epstein’s crimes” and that he did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

But EpsteinGate involves more than charges of malfeasance proven in a court of law, and you don’t have to be NBC News to be suspicious of what Bannon was doing with Epstein. Honest and principled conservatives should object to anyone associating with this convicted pedophile while spouting allegiance to traditional Christianity and family values.

The Guthrie story gets the never-ending “Breaking News” alerts, and we all hope she is found alive and that the perpetrators are arrested. But EpsteinGate goes to the heart of the political establishment, on the right and left, that thought money and power could intimidate those who claim “Democracy Dies in Darkness” and want to expose wrongdoing.

The darkness takes hold while the media convince the public to move on, and a few of us independent conservatives demand a reckoning.  We can achieve justice only with public pressure on the right and left to come to grips with their degeneracy.  Help us.

Remember that when you see media figures studiously avoiding discussing the Epstein files, they or their friends are probably implicated in them, and they seek to avoid more disclosure about their own nefarious activities.

We have a very sick media, and they are complicit in the sickness that grows by the day.

After we save Nancy Guthrie, if that is possible, can we get back to the matter of saving our country from degenerates?

As we press the case for mass deportations of illegal aliens and criminals, don’t forget about the sex crimes by Epstein and his associates, who covered them up. Expose them. Jail them.
