Anarchist Media Hit Hard

Aotearoa Indymedia is this country’s leading anarchist/socialist media forum. It is part of an international network of similar websites used to network radical activity and support networks.

The recent police roundup of suspected “terrorists“, mainly anarchists and/or Maori radicals has hit Aotearoa Indymedia hard.

Asher Goldman seems to be holding the fort alone.

From Indymedia

Aotearoa Indymedia aims to be a space where people feel inspired to read, write and comment on news and events happening across Aotearoa (and the rest of the world). In order to fulfill this aim, the Aotearoa Indymedia Editorial Collective is empowered to enact the Editorial Policy…

Prior to the Police raids of October 15th, the editorial collective had three main editors – all had been editing for some time and so were experienced with what needs to be done. These three did much of the work on Aotearoa Indymedia…

During the raids, two out of those three editors were arrested, and both are currently being held in Auckland Central Remand Prison. As the only one of those three left, I have endeavoured (with help!) to keep Aotearoa Indymedia as up to date as possible with information on the raids and protests, but there are limits to how much an increasingly small collective can do.

Now, perhaps more than ever since Aotearoa Indymedia began, we need your help. If you are interested in taking an active role in the Aotearoa Indymedia Editorial Collective, then please….

In solidarity,
Asher, (Aotearoa Indymedia Editorial Collective)

  1. A simple word count of this Indymedia site’s front page reveals where their sympathies and focus lie:

    ‘Zealand’=4
    ‘Aotearoa’=21

These people do not think of themselves as New Zealanders…. they inhabit a place and a mindset called Aotearoa.

I wonder if its the taxes of the ‘New Zealanders’ that are helping to finance the efforts of the ‘Aotearoans’ to undermine them by way of welfare, sickness and disbility benefits?

And what the fuck are these parasitic Soodens and Hameds doing in our country anyway?

About the only positive thing to come out of this terrorist affair is that the police seem to have been proactive in that they have moved relatively quickly to stamp on these scum before they can do too much actual damage.

Lets hope that the resulting publicity has woken the public up to the danger they are in. Living in a place like the West Bank, Chiapas in Mexico, Northern Ireland of the 80s and Uruguay of the 70s (gracias a nuestro buen amigo Che) is no bloody joke and Iti and his friends’ efforts to undermine this country should properly be dealt with by way of treason charges and a firing squad.

  2. Both sound like a couple of old ladies stiching while they gossip about other people who isnt there… please, please grow up or get some testosterone injections.

  3. is is an anti capitalist media website. sucks the raids are having such an effect.

two maori websites were taken down when the police stole the server.

  4. One is Omar Hamed, who I’ve recently profiled. I know who the other is, but his/her name is suppressed.

I will profile him/her when it becomes legal to do so.

  5. Anon,

I seem to remember an Act news story going up there once which was removed.

I’m not saying that isn’t their right, it is, but they can hardly claim to be truly independent when they allow hardcore leftist and anarchist content, but not right-wing.

Trev, Can you tell us who the other two editors are/were?

  6. It just so happens that the three main editors are all anarchists, while most of the commentators are also socialists or anarchists.

Sure they allow other views (and good on them), but the overall anarchist/socialist lean of the site is undeniable.

  7. It’s not an ‘anarchist/socialist’ media. It’s just an open form media – anyone can contribute – it has freedom of speech and expression at its core. These are not only ‘anarchist/socialist’ values.

    Cheers.
