Breitbart Trump
Of front-runner Donald Trump, Breitbart said “of course” Trump is “not a conservative” and stated that unless conservatives “learn how to play the media,” America will end up voting for “a celebrity candidate.” Photo via YouTube Screenshot

After almost a century of consistent and ongoing attacks to limited government as envisioned by America’s founding fathers, perhaps it is no surprise that Americans no longer look to the Constitution for answers. Because if Americans did value separation of powers and self-governance, Donald Trump would not be the front-runner for the Republican party.

After toying with the idea for many years, Donald Trump finally jumped headfirst into the presidential race as a candidate for the Republican party. At first, this author wrote several articles defending the Donald from the usual mainstream media attacks (see here and here for just two examples) but as time went on, several things started to become clear.

As Conservative icon Andrew Breitbart – who endorsed Ted Cruz just weeks before he met his tragic and untimely death – observed, “a potential Donald Trump candidacy is a bad sign for America.”

Watch:

Donald Trump has a frightening group of cult-like followers who resemble Obama voters in their persistent avoidance of an honest look at their candidate.

Trump himself said it best when he declared,

“I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters.”

Here are just some red flags that should make Donald Trump supporters pause:

  1. While Donald Trump has gotten some attention for appearing on the cover of Playboy in 1990, the horrifying interview therein included a nod to China for squashing the 1989 uprising at Tienanmen Square “with strength” and shockingly bashing Russia’s Gorbachev for not having “a firm enough hand.”
  2. Donald Trump is embraced for being an “anti-establishment” candidate, but he said openly and clearly that he will work with the GOP establishment. “I have received so many phone calls from people that you would call establishment,” he said. “There’s a point at which: Let’s get to be a little establishment. We’ve got to get things done folks, OK? Believe me, don’t worry. We’re going to make such great deals.”

  3. Donald Trump was the preferred GOP candidate over Ted Cruz by radical left wing figures former President Jimmy Carter (who endorsed Hillary Clinton) and former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich (who endorsed Bernie Sanders). They both said Trump has “malleable” principles whereas Ted Cruz is a believer of constitutional conservatism and is likely to stand by his principles.
  4. Trump told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer that “getting along” was the “purpose of what the founders created.” Actually, the Constitution was designed specifically to ensure that the government would not become too big and powerful.
  5. Trump embraces big government, which is antithetical to the vision of the founding fathers. As recently as last year, Donald Trump praised Scotland’s “single payer” system, and attacked physicians for making too much money.
  6. Despite his announcement in June lamenting that electing a politician as president “will grow government, not cut it,” Trump regularly assures that he will not be cutting government services. Trump’s “revenue neutral” tax plan assures that the tax code will be “simplified,” but does not begin to cut the alarming size and scope of the federal government.
  7. Trump regularly bashes industry while ignoring big government crony capitalism and the stifling impact of government regulations and taxes on business. “In a nearly one-hour speech,” Byron York wrote at the Washington Examiner earlier this month, “Trump railed against pharmaceutical companies. He railed against oil companies. And insurance companies. And defense contractors. And he set himself against a political system that he said allows big-money corporate ‘bloodsuckers’ to control the government with campaign contributions.”
  8. The Constitution was clear that the role of the executive branch is specifically and strictly limited, and includes assuring that laws are “faithfully executed.” This is why Donald Trump’s statement that he will change the libel laws to sue journalists was terrifying. It is not the president’s job to create laws, or to change the Constitution. As much as the mainstream media has evolved into a slander machine for conservatives, the First Amendment specifically cites “freedom of the press.” The people, not the president, need to take back the media by standing up and relentlessly telling the truth.
  9. Donald Trump and his family supported Jimmy Carter over Ronald Reagan, along with numerous radical left wing figures such as Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer.
  10. Trump declared at one time that he is “very pro choice,” even on partial birth abortion, but now claims to be pro-life.
  11. On health care, Trump has no plan aside from removing “lines around each state,” but he does propose some incomprehensible “solutions” to addressing the Veterans Administration, which include progressive buzzwords/phrases repeatedly such as “investing,” “expanding” and “increasing funding” for the VA.
  12. Trump currently believes in the euphemistically-named “Path to Citizenship” for illegal immigrants and even referred to the former presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s “self-deportation” as “maniacal.”
  13. In 2013, while Ted Cruz was fighting the Gang of Eight bill on the Senate floor, Donald Trump was meeting with Amnesty activists, reportedly telling them that they “convinced” him.
  14. Donald Trump does not trust the states to be stewards of their own land, which has been unconstitutionally seized by the federal government. “The issue is not that so much of the state is public land,” Trump told the Reno Gazette Journal earlier this month, “it is how that land is managed.”
  15. Donald Trump once testified that his “dream” would be to put the United Nations headquarters at Ground Zero in New York.

Many people, including this author, did not get politically active until Barack Obama’s intense and frightening anti-American rhetoric awoke them from their long comfortable slumber. It is horrifying that so many would turn from the only anti-establishment candidate who has proven himself time and again to relentlessly fight for the Constitution in favor of a man who clearly said he would work with the establishment.

This author, who heartily and unapologetically endorses Ted Cruz (and welcomes any thoughtful debate on his merits) will leave you with this:

  1. A Ted Cruz presidency would be great (in theory). However, we would have to abandon the Law of the Land and acknowledge the the Rule of Law is dead (there is a valid argument to be made that it is already when we look at open borders) in order to justify a vote for Cruz. I like the man. He’d make a great POTUS. There is no doubt in my mind – sincerely. However, only a circle jerk analysis renders Cruz a natural born citizen. Same with Rubio. Same with so many others, including Jindal and Romney – both good people. Say what you want, but if the U.S. Constitution means ANYTHING to you anymore, you have to choose either the US Constitution or your emotional political preferences. To claim otherwise is to engage knowingly in abject torture of the plain language meaning of words that have stood the test of time for centuries. To knowingly vote for a man who you know is ineligible says a lot about you.

  2. This is so agonizing. What is wrong with the American people going for a Hitler like strong man. We were warned years ago, by Glenn Beck, that this is exactly what would happen and what do you know, here we are. As they say, we get what we deserve and we, Americans, have been throwing out the Constitution for decades. Thanks Trevor for your fight on our behalf. Sadly I think we are to freak’n stupid to listen and even that was a contrived goal of the progressives!

  3. The desperation is duly noted.

    Breitbart is DEAD.
Breitbart did NOT endorse Ted Cruz
    for the 2016 Presidential nominee.

    And you speak of “integrity”…PTUI!!

    1. It is doubtful that Breitbart would have changed his principles in the past three years. But this article is really about the 15 points listed above. Did you read any of them?

  4. Another blogger/media type who just doesn’t get it. Very big prolonged sigh. A vote for Trump isn’t necessarily a vote for Trump as much as it is a vote against the criminal cabal in DC on both sides of the aisle.
I don’t want to have to tell you again, don’t make me come up there.

    1. So why vote for someone that has an extensive history of support of the very things that you say you’re against? What!? Continue to fund Planned Parenthood for the “great” things they have done. I know his position on that changes depending on what state is voting, but his support of PP is clear. There’s is so much evidence out there of Trump’s liberal ideals that your “vote against the criminal cabal in DC” sound disingenuous.

    2. So in effect you are saying I am going to cut off our collective noses to spite our collective faces. In other words you would like to see the completion of the ‘fundamental transformation’ Obama promised so you can blame the progressives in the Republican party then wash your hands of the utter collapse of this wonderful nation. Well thanks a lot. We have a George Washington, a Calvin Coolidge, a Reagan standing right in front of you and you are going to elect another, more dangerously, progressive out of spite and anger.

  5. CRUZ CANT FIGHT FOR THE CONSTITUTION, WHEN HE KNOWS HE CANT LEGALLY RUN. PERIOD.
BUT I DID NOTICE HIS FATHER WENT FROM REVOLUTIONARY IN CASTROS ARMY TO SOME WHITEWASHED LABEL AS PREACHER. AND THATS THE SAME SLICK LIE, CRUZ WILL GIVE YOU ON EVERYTHING! I DONT DISLKE CRUZ, BUT HES LYING. NOT A GREAT START.

    1. Breitbarts Ghost You are exactly correct. And no one can speak for Andrew. He is dead. No one “knows” what he would do or would not do had he survived Obama.

    2. And yet, Cruz has done more to defend the Constitution than all of the comments you can make under a Psuedo name. There is not one Trump supporter that has put Trump under the same scrutiny as the other candidates. Trump supporters are having to carry a lot (I mean A LOT!) of water for him. It’s one thing to put your head in the sand, your fingers in your ears and shout fa la la la la, but it’s another matter when you daily pick up the mantle of a NY Social liberal and put up a proverbial middle finger at the establishment. To do so shows that liberalism is not your enemy.

  6. ITS IMPORTANT TO NOTE,, THAT ANDREW WAS ALSO WRONG ON SOME THINGS. IF YOU KNEW HIM, YOU/D KNOW HE WAS A LIBERAL, USING THE CONSERVATIVE MOVEMENT. NOT A CONSERVATIVE. WHICH IS A LABEL, LIKE TRUMPSTER, AND THE REST OF ALINSKYS TACTICS. WE DESPISE THE LEFT FOR USING GAMES TO MARGINALIZE PEOPLE.. YET YOU DO THE SAME THING, WHEN YOU HAVE NO LEGIT ARGUMENT. CRAZY TOWN? LOOKS LIKE THATS MORE YOIUR NEIGHBORHOOD LADY, NOT MINE. I DONT FOLLOW CROWDS, AND HERDS OF GROUP THINK. YOU/RE A GREAT PARROT. BUT PARROTS DONT THINK, THEY JUST REPEAT.
SAVE YOUR NAME CALLING.. AND READ THE CONSTITUTION.

    1. Do you believe that Donald Trump would support limited government as envisioned by our founding fathers?

  7. I have researched each of the candidates background, resume and platforms for both parties with the exception of Clinton and 5 of the Republican candidates. The Republican candidates that I excluded from my research were no longer candidates while I was still pulling up information. I was leaning towards Ted Cruz because I’d studied him during his Senate run and his credentials checked out. This is a different election and his actions while in Congress are important. He is the only candidate who hasn’t double crossed Americans, one way or another. This article is informative and accurate. Bottom line, after months of research I feel confident that Ted Cruz is the only candidate who will fight for the Constitutional rights of every single person in the United States. I will vote in the primary tomorrow morning, confident that voting for Ted Cruz is the best choice.

    1. I’m glad you stick to your candidate even when all the lies and name calling have been allowed to be thrown at him by Drumpf. Amen!

  8. ANDREW.. ALSO ALWAYS HATED…THE CONVENIENT PC EDIT. SHAME ON THOSE WHOSE USED HIM, EVEN IN DEATH, HE MUST BE ROLLING IN HIS GRAVE TO SEE HOW YOU ALL CAVED, AND GAVE IN. THEN DISRESPECTED HIM AND MISQUOTED HIM. TO SERVE YOUR AGENDA.

ANDREW CAME FROM EXACTLY WHERE TRUMP DID. HE CHANGED FOR THE BETTER, DESPITE IT, DOESNT TRUMP DESERVE THE SAME? HIS LACK OF KNOWLEDGE OF POLITICS SHOWED THEN, BUT HE IS LEARNING AND EDUCATING HIMSELF ON FACTS, AND DATA. PAST COMMENTS LIKE ANY OF OURS.. IS JUST THAT. FYI- MAKING A LOW COMMENT ON HIS WIFE? WAS DISGUSTING! IT PROVES MY POINTS. SEETHING JEALOUSY, OF SUCCESS, HE DOES HAVE EVERYTHING! MONEY, POWER, FAME, BEAUTIFUL WIFE AND FAMILY. YET, HE SACRIFICED IT ALL..TO TRY AND SAVE THIS COUNTRY. WHAT CAN YOU GIVE HIM, WHAT CAN THE OFFICE AND THE JOB GIVE HIM, THAT HES NOT BETTER OFF, WITHOUT????

. ID SAY TRUMP HAS PROVED WHAT A REAL AMERICAN IS AND DOES IN A TIME OF NEED. THE REST OF YOU ARE AMBUSHERS,INCITERS, AND MORE DANGEROUS TO THIS COUNTRY, THAN ANYONE! INCLUDING THE GUY WITH THE JOB NOW. BECAUSE YOU ARE HANDING HIM, WHAT HE WANTS, YOU DESTROYED YOURSELVES WITH PETTINESS. – DONT BLAME TRUMP. AND GROW UP!!!! ALL OF YOU.

  9. PLAY THE WHOLE CLIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THATS WHAT ANDREW WOULD SAY!!! THAT WASNT HIS MEANING. BUT IF U HAVE TO GO TO THE GRAVE, TO MAKE A POINT, MAYBE YOU DONT HAVE ONE. ANDREW WOULD CERTAINLY CALL YOU OUT ON PUTTING ***ANOTHER ILLEGAL USURPER IN HIGHEST OFFICE IN THE LAND.. JUST OUT OF EGO AND JEALOUSY, OF THE ALPHA MALE, YOU ALL FAILED TO BE ITS SAD TO SEE, HOW LOW SOME OF OUR BEST CONSERVATIVES, HAVE FALLEN.

    1. Your comment is absurd! Writing it in caps doesn’t make it any less so. What could Breitbart have possibly said to change the tone of “well Certainly he’s not conservative”

Any American with any ounce of rational thought and common sense would stay far away from Drumpf. If you are a gambling man go to Vegas or one of Drumpf’s casinos.. but don’t gamble on putting a President into office! As far as I know all other candidates are eligible for the office. Not sure what you are still talking about “another illegal usurper” when it has never even been proven that Obama is there illegally. Get your head out of your conspiring tail end and use your brain not your emotion.

      1. HOW DO YOU KNOW WITH THE CHANGING OF THE POLITICAL CLIMATE, PROXY WARS, ECT. TODAY BREITBART WOULD NOT OF CHANGED HIS MIND ON TRUMP? ITS 2016!!!! USING A DEAD MANS OPINION FROM 2011? > KIND OF A STRETCH! {ATTENTION WANNABE WEBPOLICE NEWSFLASH- CAPS ARE AWESOME. ITS ALSO NOT 1985 ! }

    2. Sorry Trevor, Breitbarts ghost is correct. We do not need another illegal usurper. It is wrong, wrong to keep pushing Cruz as he also knows he is simply not eligible for the office.

      1. not one comment from you and all caps on any of the fifteen points raised. Did you read the article?

  10. Alot of our people think we can use Trump; They know instinctively that he’s NOT conservative; he’s NOT a Christian; but they think that ‘we’ can harness his ideas.but as the Heritage group exposed Trump has NO REAL CORE (beliefs or possibly even values). he likes success adn money and he knows how to make himself LOOK like a success…. his current wife is a great example.

      1. Does the Constitution require a person to be a denominational (Baptist, Pentecostal, Methodist, Catholic) Christian?
I know obama said he was Christian; but we all know he’s Muslim.

    1. Well Myron, Trump isn’t a conservative ideologue, there’s no doubt. And he’s a typical cultural Christian like most Americans. I grew up in his church and know what they teach and it’s not salvation by faith through Jesus. It’s good works and personal responsibility. Just traditional American values. But at least he’s not a fraud as a Christian like Cruz who claims to be a Christian but embraces unbiblical theology and doctrine and doesn’t obey his own proclaimed faith. For example, he married outside of his proclaimed faith, which is forbidden in Christianity. You might think a Seventh Day Adventist, which is what Heidi is, is Christian, but they deny core doctrine of Christianity like the belief in hell and eternal punishment for sins. If he’s such a devout Christian, then why would he violate his faith and marry someone who’s not what he claims to be? And if he believes she’s a Christian, then he doesn’t know what Christianity is. And he embraces his father’s teachings and yet Rafael endorses teaching that Jesus is not the only begotten son of God and that men can become gods. This is heresy. I’d rather support someone who is just a plain old American who thinks going to church makes you a Christian than someone who embraces heresy.

      1. You obviously have never read your ‘Bible’ though one tome, cover to cover. What you say is an obvious lie from any angle it is viewed. Try reading a copy of Scripture derived from the Hebrew. What you coddle is from Greek-Roman paganism. Look at what the ‘clergy’ of both protestants and catholics are guilty of. And they are YOUR TEACHERS !
