Syd Jackson’s Libya Confessions

Before his recent death from cancer, Maori activist Syd Jackson gave an interview to his nephew, journalist Potaka Maipi.

Parts of it were read on TV1’s “Marae” yesterday.

Syd Jackson spoke of his links with Libya, which he and wife Deidre Nehua first visited in April 1988.

He reminisced about getting his photo taken with former US Black Panther leader, Stokeley Carmichael and meeting US Nation of Islam head, Louis Farrakhan.

Jackson also spoke of returning to Libya on several occasions and meeting the man himself-Muammar Gaddafi.

Fortunately the media never heard about that at the time, otherwise there would have been even greater horror on the part of those people opposed to that country and that regime.”

Quite.

  1. Yes, all those apologists for a sympathiser of Gaddafi – hiding now I bet.

Proud Syd saddled up to this murdering ranting tyrant?

Gaddafi's useful idiots in New Zealand quietly keeping a low profile. Syd wasn't the only one.

  2. i find it really funny that this guy is not even from new zealand yet he thinks he can jusdge issues that are topical only to new zealanders. syd was an activist for the progression of maori rights and affairs. unlike america pakeha did not enslave the maori people as the white supremicists did to the africans. i suggest the writer of this blog goes and make himself a strong cup of american espresso and concerns himself with his own countries major issues with racism and radical activists instead of delving in to the aotearoa history books.

  3. all those who speak ill of syd jackson are cowards. they are attempting to analyse a man who has passed a way and therefore cannot voice the truth. no matter whom syd jackson may have had contact with or what actions he took concerning the rights of maori in new zealand it is extremely disrespectful to speak like that of someone who has passed away.

  4. Mah, we don’t need the alien perspective of a fanatical zionist on matters Maori or NZ.

You wouldn’t know how to walk down to the dairy to buy a Herald so I reckon you should “shut it”…..”already”…..”hmmmm”…..and “certainly”.

Love your sick old grave dancing Trev…..and you fancy yourself “noble” for it. Choice !

  5. “Dream on Mah …what do you mean “idol” same age as me and a friend as well… this is not America it is Aotearoa. And as I have said before – I am proud of my Jewish heritage but I cannot go along with Zionist policies, which are an abrogation of the humane values that are inherent in Judaism….so where is your humanity? Oops I forgot again … you just don’t answer questions.”

Knock it off Huhana. Apparently, it’s wrong that I ever should express my Jewish heritage, but it’s alright to protect Maori radicals like Syd Jackson from criticism. Never mind that Palestinian leaders are not innocent and worked with the pro-Axis Muslim Brotherhood leader-Mohammad Amin al-Husayani who met with Adolf Hitler during World War II. Or that the late Yasser Arafat was also one of his soldiers in the Palestinian Black Hand which cooresponded with him and his followers.

  6. Mah:

“Oh knock it off Huhana. You just can’t accept ANY criticism coming toward your “idol”. This is right up the same lines as how Ward Churchill visited Libya in the 1980’s.

  7. So james, it’s okay for the Left to travel to meet up with Gaddafi, but wrong for Friedman to suggest to Pinochet to liberalize his regime?”

ahhhh read what i wrote….I think you missed my point…

  9. Mah:

Eh?!? Syd Jackson is no longer with us. Yes, mah, I knew him. He was a good and kind man.

So where have you travelled to in your life mah29001? (Oops, that right, I forgot you never answer questions….haven’t been on this blog for a while because it makes me feel SICK.) Oh, that’s right, you are a Zionist mah, where is your humanity?

So “shut it” yourself you don’t know me either.

  10. “Sick, sick, sick you are Trevor Loudon.”

    Huhana, you’re sick.

“You know nothing about Syd Jackson mah29001 so zip your lip.”

I don’t think having someone like Jackson or anyone else to be supportive of a totalitarian state which Gaddafi rules is a good thing no matter who it is. So shut it with you allowing someone who ideologically agrees with you that sides with a totalitarian government.

  11. Sick, sick, sick you are Trevor Loudon.

    Huhana

PS You know nothing about Syd Jackson mah29001 so zip your lip.

  12. So james, it’s okay for the Left to travel to meet up with Gaddafi, but wrong for Friedman to suggest to Pinochet to liberalize his regime?

  13. This is a new low for you Trevor, Syd is hardly in a position to rectify all the mis information and lies you have written here about him.”

Thats rich.Milton Friedman gets attacked for meeting Pinochet once, for an hour, and telling him to free his people and let them prosper and the Left make hay out of it….and yet Communist arseholes who openly confess to beliving in anti life and anti liberty causes are somehow sacrosanct?

  14. “Explain how libya is an enemy to this country?”

You’re taking sides with also the Bush Administration who believes that Gaddafi’s regime is a “moderate” one? His son-Saif al-Islam who is also touted his successor has been accused by the Iraqi government and the U.S. military of being involved in funding an Iraqi terror insurgent group which struck northern Iraq.

Oh yea, what “moderates” Gaddafi and his gang of merry thugs really are.

  15. Explain how libya is an enemy to this country?

If it wasn’t for the US bombing libya in the 80’s very few people in country whould know about libya and fewer whould give a shit about it.

    Y.

  16. Interesting you ay that anon.

That piece was transcribed by one of my supporters who’s mother died of exactly the same type of cancer that Syd Jackson did.

My friend was very conscious of Jackson’s suffering, but also very aware of what the man was saying.

Syd Jackson was probably a nice bloke and a great father.

However many of his ideas were destructive and corrosive.

He openly (and covertly)consorted with enemies of this country.

I oppose Syd Jackson’s bad ideas and try to expose them, because they are now common amongst a certain segment of the Maori population.

I’m sorry for Syd Jackson’s family that he is gone, but I will never apologise for telling the truth about his warped ideas and destructive activities.

  17. Don’t be a smart arse prick its your whole slant on and sleight on the mans memory,Syds contribution to Maori in Aotearoa. The documentary was moving and filmed when he was in great pain. You know this if you watched that piece on Marae.

  18. This is a new low for you Trevor, Syd is hardly in a position to rectify all the mis information and lies you have written here about him.
