Barack Obama’s Marxist Mentor

The US far left is divided on whether to support Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama for the Democratic Presidential nomination.

While both have cultivated a moderate image in recent times, both undoubtedly come from the left.

Clinton’s youthful Marxist ties have been well documented, but it appears that even Obama has some socialist influence in his background.

Certainly the Hawaiian based East West Centre where Obama’s Kenyan father and American met is a well known centre of leftist thought.

Now the Communist Party USA is claiming Barack Obama as its spiritual heir.

US academic Gerald Horne, a member of the editorial board of the CPUSA’s theoretical journal, Political Affairs wrote this piece in its latest online version.

Horne is commenting on the alleged leftist views of US ethnic minorities.

When these sources are explored, I think scholars of the future will be struck by, for example, the response in Honolulu when tens of thousands of workers went on strike when labor and CP leaders were convicted of Smith Act violations in 1953 – a response totally unlike the response on the mainland. Of course 98% of these workers were of Asian-Pacific ancestry, which suggests that scholars have also been derelict in analyzing why these workers were less anti-communist than their Euro-American counterparts.

In any case, deploring these convictions in Hawaii was an African-American poet and journalist by the name of Frank Marshall Davis, who was certainly in the orbit of the CP – if not a member – and who was born in Kansas and spent a good deal of his adult life in Chicago, before decamping to Honolulu in 1948 at the suggestion of his good friend Paul Robeson.

Eventually, he befriended another family – a Euro-American family – that had migrated to Honolulu from Kansas and a young woman from this family eventually had a child with a young student from Kenya East Africa who goes by the name of Barack Obama, who retracing the steps of Davis eventually decamped to Chicago.

In his best selling memoir ‘Dreams of my Father’, the author speaks warmly of an older black poet, he identifies simply as “Frank” as being a decisive influence in helping him to find his present identity as an African-American, a people who have been the least anticommunist and the most left-leaning of any constituency in this nation –

At some point in the future, a teacher will add to her syllabus Barack’s memoir and instruct her students to read it alongside Frank Marshall Davis’ equally affecting memoir, “Living the Blues”…

According to African American Review of Summer/Fall 2003;

In Davis’s case, his political commitments led him to join the American Communist Party during the middle of World War II–even though he never publicly admitted his Party membership.

Will the CPUSA back Barack?

Well first off the last post is 100% correct. If you hang out with terrorists you probably have the same point of view or one very close to them. Second RP is also correct, if Obama does not agree with these people and their views why doesn’t he openly in public denounce this? He just wants do ignore it and let it go away. Why is he afraid to tell these people and the American public that he does not agree with this point of view if he doesn’t? Why did he only refer to Frank Marshall Davis as Frank in his book? If he is that big of an influence in your life that you put him in a book you wrote don’t you think he deserves full credit for it? Does he know that this will hurt the public opinion of him if he publicly supports him? Of course he does, Americans are freedom loving people!! Now as far as your comments that you “challenge anyone to prove me wrong!! Show me where Horne makes those statements!” you only referenced one article for your research (http://www.politicalaffairs.net/article/articleview/5047/1/32/). The article I read on AIM (Obama’s Communist Mentor at http://www.aim.org/aim-column/obamas-communist-mentor/) from February 18, 2008 does not say that this information came from any specific source it states “the record” which appears(it does not say for sure) to be referring to Obama’s book. Either way you are trying to split hairs here. The connection is pretty clear weather the authors of the articles stated it correctly or not. Just like Freedomnow stated “Obama admits the strong influence of Davis on him and Horne as well as other leftwing radicals praise the influence Davis had on Obama.”. That is enough to say what side he is on and where he stands on the issue. You said “They are “deliberate misrepresentation,” also known to the rest of the world as disinformation. If you are honest you will agree.”. This might and might not be accurate it will take a lot more research but you if you are honest then you have to agree that Obama has ties to communists that for what ever reason he does not what to break……..Right??? We all know that Mccain would have denounced communists in a heart beat with out having to think about it as any true blooded American should!!! God Bless John Mccain!!!!

  2. Frank Marshall Davis’s career advice to Obama included using a Marxist philosophy in pursuing his career. My God, all you have to do is look who Obama’s friends are:
    Bill Ayers
    Rev. Wright
    Louis Farrakhan
    Rev. Pfleger
    Rezko
All the above with exception to Rezko are anti-U.S. government. What else could they be other than Socialists/Marxists???

  3. I see you are taking your strawman argument to another blog.

You are involved in your own campaign of deliberate disinformation.

Obama admits the strong influence of Davis on him and Horne as well as other leftwing radicals praise the influence Davis had on Obama.

  4. RP asked “Are there any in the article that you can prove wrong.”

Yes! I can prove that Kincaid’s AND Loudon’s quote of Gerald Horne is wrong . Here is the link to Horne’s article: http://www.politicalaffairs.net/article/articleview/5047/1/32/. NOWHERE does the word “mentor” appear. NOWHERE does the CP claim Obama as its spiritual heir.

I challenge anyone to prove me wrong!! Show me where Horne makes those statements! They do not exist. They are “deliberate misrepresentation,” also known to the rest of the world as disinformation. If you are honest you will agree.

  5. Kaleokualoha …

Your comment is as long as the article.

Are there any in the article that you can prove wrong. I suggest you to Obama and inquire on the same. I suggest let him make a formal public speech denouncing the story to be UNTRUE by offering alternative evidence.

Then let’s talk if this article is just a smear campaign.

By the way, it will really smear him, since at it stands now, the party concerned does not provide counter evidence.

  6. Like the blind men and the elephant, professional advocates such as Cliff Kincaid (A.I.M.) and Trevor Loudon (New Zealand), only recognize that small facet of Davis’ life that seems to confirm their agenda in smearing Barack Obama. Not content with stacking available evidence, they are prone to creating false evidence in order to exaggerate Davis’ purported influence over Obama. Such disinformation includes:

    – Kincaid: According to Gerald Horne (CPUSA linked article), Davis “became the young man’s mentor” and influenced Obama’s “career moves” (Horne said that Davis gave Obama career advice, rather than influencing his career moves, and did not use the term “mentor.”)

    – Loudon: “the Communist Party USA is claiming Barack Obama as its spiritual heir” (Gerald Horne made no such claim in the referenced article)

    – Kincaid: Obama “developed a close relationship, almost like a son, with Davis” (unsubstantiated speculation)

    – Kincaid: Dr. Takara described Davis as a “socialist realist” (Takara actually described him as a “social realist”)

As his focus shifted over the years, Frank Marshall Davis was many different things. He was a communist, capitalist, socialist, democrat, libertarian, civil rights activist, labor activist, pacifist, and even militarist as conditions changed. If you closely examine his writings, however, you will find two things at his core: a poet and champion of human rights.

  7. do you all have any idea how deluded you sound. almost mental. It must be wierd living in such paranoia. sorry for you. really sorry.

  8. No! No! No! You don’t get it. Ask yourselves which COUNTRY would back Obama for Pres. of the US. Which country would stand to gain the most from a President who would disarm his (our)country? This is scary that so many people are so naive to not ask questions about their potential nominee for Pres. Look up his communist connections on the internet.
    Elena

  9. The media is so afraid to criticize Obama, for fear of being labeled “racist”, that they give him a complete pass on any difficult questions. Why doesn’t anyone in the media have the guts to question Obama on what he means by “change” and what his real agenda is?

  10. Just wait…if Barack Hussein Osama bin Obama gets the presidential nod from the Democrats….he will be righteously swift-boated in due order. Neither Osama bin Obama or Hillary Clinton are electable. Both have dirty, dirty backgrounds of which when the American people find out via the Internet, they will be resoundedly defeated. If on the outside chance either one of these two Stalinists get elected, the first time they attempt to national banks, schools, health care, etc., they will be run out of time on a rail…DeeVEe
